Ga. State Builder Licensing PDF Print E-mail
After many years of debate, Georgia has finally instituted a Builder Licensing requirement for conducting business as a Contractor here. The new law became effective on July 1, 2008.

All work that exceeds $2,500 in value now requires that a State Licensed Contractor take out all building permits and performs the work necessary to comply with all Building Codes.

Using an unlicensed contractor in Georgia is no longer recognized and gives the property owner NO LEGAL RECOURSE against any complaints for poor workmanship, warranties, or other concerns and/or failure to complete a job for you.

Grayson Family Homes is already an approved licensee in two of the three categories set up by the new law: 1) all Residential work, both new construction and remodeling/additions, and 2) light commercial contracting for any building under 50,000 sq.ft. and up to three stories in height.

The new law requires certain measures of prior experience and/or testing requirements in order to receive a Builder License. Additionally, it requires that EVERY licensed builder must provide to the State Board For Residential and General Contractors a copy of both its General Liability and Worker's Compensation insurance certifications, and that these must be kept in full force and effect at all times, else the license is automatically supspended at any time such insurance coverage should lapse. Grayson Family Homes is fully insured and licensed.

Be certain that your Builder is licensed by the State and has the necessary insurance coverage for your project. Grayson Family Homes is License # RLCO000424.
